Me and my family recently watched a downloaded version of the 86th Academy Awards which was originally aired on March 2, 2014 (March 3, 2014 in the morning, here in the Philippines). It was one helluva show especially with it being hosted by an exquisite comedienne of Ellen DeGeneres’ caliber...except for one thing:
The John Travolta Botch!
Now, I know you may have all heard or read this on the internet/social media, and I did too, but for the benefit of those who do not know, Mr. John Travolta was tasked of presenting a performer. That performer is Idina Menzel, a very popular theater actress/singer who is about to sing the (Academy Award-winning) song “Let it Go” from the Best Animated Feature Film, “Frozen.”
Wow! That is an Epic Botch of Biblical Proportions, don’t you
think? I mean, I will understand if Mr. Travolta is reading from an idiot board
or an LCD screen at that time and it is an impromptu introduction, but c’mon, they
have rehearsals before the night of the awards and of course Mr. Travolta could
have just researched on the net who Idina Menzel is. If he is having a hard
time pronouncing Idina’s name, he should have just searched in Wikipedia and he
could have found out how to pronounce the name right.
There are a lot of options available for him so that he
could have prevented botching it, but still he did. One thing is for sure, with
all due respect to John Travolta, he did not come in prepared for his job that
night.
Now, what is my initial reaction when I heard that Epic
Botch?
'Nuff Said!
Until next time,
Ciao!
