“It is smaller..than my Mini Smartphone”
Fact is, I am a “Whovian”, a newly-christened Whovian.
For the benefit of those who do not know, a Whovian is what
the fans of the longest-running British Science Fiction Series, Doctor Who,
call themselves. It is my little sister who converted me to being a Whovian
earlier this year (Oh my little sis, she always introduce me to new things,
especially, TV series and stuff). She made me watch one “Special” and the rest
is history.
Now, to give back something to my little sis, I decided I
will get her something related to Doctor Who, which is technically, an official
merchandise. What did I get her? A miniature of the Doctor’s Time Machine – The
TARDIS, a Light-Up Tardis Kit.
This Small Box Holds the Blue Box |
When I first got my hands on the Tardis kit, my first
impression was; It was really smaller than I expected (I had this reaction
while I am holding the box, what more if I am holding the actual “TARDIS Kit?”)
Upon opening the box, you get the TARDIS Kit itself and one little foldout booklet. The booklet is actually a TARDIS timeline. It explains what the TARDIS is and its ongoing history with the Doctor itself (only up to the Eleventh Doctor, and no War Doctor too).
Look at those nice details..Groovy! |
As expected, as I said earlier, The TARDIS kit itself is
really small, more like a shade of just 3 inches. “PUNY” is one exact word to
describe how small it is. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in
sheer detail. You can see how the makers of the kit took every detail of the
TARDIS to heart when making this little replica. From the molded wood grain to the tiny instruction plaque and even the St. John's Ambulance sign on the door, everything is spot-on (to verify it, I used a magnifying glass to squint on the details, and what do you know? It is really SPOT-ON).
Now, where was I? Oh, the box said it is a “Light Up” Kit
right? The main feature of this TARDIS kit is the light-up beacon on top of it,
just like the actual TARDIS on the show (but it does not blink and no
Whoosh-whoosh sounds). The light, from my observation, is an LED and is powered
by a 3-Volt battery. The switch for the light is hidden under the kit, also
where the compartment for the battery is.
The Night Light..but no Whoosh-Whoosh |
The light is pretty bright in its own right. Just do not
expect the kind of light that you can use as a flashlight or to brighten up a
very dark room. However, when used as a night light, it really does its job. I
know for sure my sister is going to put it in her table at her room, so this
being a decent light source as a night light will definitely serve its
purpose.
All in all, I can say that this TARDIS kit is a “steal” for
the price that I paid for it and will definitely be a great gift to my Whovian
Little Sis. It is so detailed even though it is small and it really does
radiate of a Doctor Who aura. The only quirk I had for this kit was that it
really is small. Do not get me wrong, I, for one, is a guy that is really into
small things with so much detail (I even have a small smartphone because I
cannot bear to put those enormous five to six-inchers-of-a-phone in my pocket),
but when we are talking about a thing that is smaller than my smartphone..NOW,
that is really small. I could have wished this TARDIS kit was like around 4 to
5 inches in size and that will be a very great deal.
Suddenly, my phone became taller than something... |
Oh, and one more thing, I really wished there was a key too
that you can use to open its doors so that I can really see that “It is bigger
on the inside”, but ALAS, there is no feature like that, so all I can exclaim
is “It is smaller..than my Mini Smartphone.”
That is it for my little review of this little thing.
Until next time,
Ciao!
